DSR1 How to Upload Tune Files from Text or Email
Learn how to import a Rockford Fosgate DSR1 setup file from a text message or email, then upload that tune file into the DSR1 using the PerfectTune app.
American Hard Bag no longer sells, supports, or provides technical support for Rockford Fosgate or Rockford Fosgate products, including the DSR1. This guide is provided as legacy information only for customers who already own a DSR1. For current DSR1 technical support, firmware, app support, or hardware troubleshooting, contact Rockford Fosgate directly.
Before You Start
One of the best features of the DSR1 is that it can upload a setup file with crossover, EQ, routing, and configuration settings. This means someone can send you a setup file by text or email, and you can import that file into the PerfectTune app without manually entering each setting.
You can also save multiple setup files to your smartphone or keep them stored on your computer by email for later use.
Before starting, make sure the Rockford Fosgate PerfectTune app is already installed on your phone.
View DSR1 Setup File DownloadsWhat Happens When You Upload a New Setup File
The setup file will overwrite the current settings stored in the DSR1. This includes both the input/output setup as well as EQ and crossover settings.
- Input setup
- Output routing
- EQ settings
- Crossover settings
- Preset information
- The physical high-level / RCA input switch
- Incorrect wiring
- App, Bluetooth, or firmware problems
- Hardware failure inside the DSR1
The only setting the new setup file cannot change for you is the high-level/RCA-level setting. This is a hard switch on the side of the DSR1. If you are using an aftermarket radio with RCA-style outputs, choose Low Level RCA Input. If you are using a factory Harley-Davidson radio, choose High Level Input.
How to Load a Setup File from Text Message
Step 1 — Open and Import the Tune File from Text
Open the text message that contains the DSR1 setup file. Apple devices have a security feature that may prevent you from simply tapping the setup file to open it.
Instead, go to the text message thread and tap the Info icon in the upper-right corner of the screen.
This will take you to a screen where you can view attachments and pictures from that text thread. Tap Attachments, then tap the Rockford setup file.
After selecting the setup file, tap the export/share options icon.
Choose Import with PerfectTune. This imports the setup file into the Rockford Fosgate PerfectTune app.
Step 2 — Save the Imported File in PerfectTune
Importing a setup file saves the file inside the app and allows you to store it there. You can optionally edit the name and description of the file.
When we previously made DSR1 files for customers, we typically left a detailed description inside the file information.

Step 3 — Upload the Saved File to the DSR1
In the preset manager, tap the options icon. This is typically the second icon at the bottom left.
The app will give you the option to upload the file to the DSR1.
Uploading will overwrite your current settings. If you want to keep your current setup, save your existing setup first. Then upload the new file to the DSR1.
Uploading a Setup File from Email
Step 4 — Open the Email File with PerfectTune
The procedure for email is essentially the same. Open the email that contains the DSR1 setup file.
When you open the setup file from an email, you may be presented with a screen full of code. This is normal. Just like the text-message method, tap the options/share icon at the top-right corner of your screen and choose to open the file with Rockford Fosgate PerfectTune.
Once the new tune file is uploaded, the DSR1 will use the settings from that file. Confirm your input switch position, wiring, and speaker connections before playing the system at high volume.
